[CROWLEY, Aleister] Magical and Philosophical Commentaries on the Book of the Law (93 Publishing)

$795.00

Edited and annotated by John Symonds and Kenneth Grant. Introduction by Grant

[Montreal]: 93 Publishing, 1974. First Edition. Hardcover. Octavo. xvii + 346pp. Blue cloth with large, bright gilt design of the Stele of Revealing of front and rear panels. Full color peacock image to endpapers. Black and white frontispiece photo of Crowley smoking a pipe. Introduction by Kenneth Grant. Text in black and red ink throughout. Foldout plate showing the Stele of Revealing, plus three full color plates. Lacks errata slip but I have included a xerox copy of one which is now laid-in. A fantastic book production. The slightest bit of handling wear to cloth. Gilt remains bright and corners are sharp. The binding is sound. Includes a clear mylar protective cover (removable) but I don't believe it is the original mylar cover that came with the book. Former owners' small initials and date on front endpaper. Former owners evidently had access to an errata slip and they have neatly made corrections (written small) within the text. The corrections are in red pen and many are easy to miss since most of the corrections are in areas where the printed text is red. These corrections don't retract from the book's overall appearance at all in my opinion. All in all a near fine copy of this exceedingly scarce volume.

This classic work includes the holograph facsimile of Liber AL vel Legis (The Book of the Law) followed by Crowley’s verse by verse commentaries (old and new), plus the Djeridensis Comment. At the end of the volume is a reproduction of Liber LXVII (Liber OZ) in red ink. The beautiful color illustrations (of Nuit, Hadit, and Ra Hoor Khuit) are by Linda Macfarlane. The book is dedicated to the memory of Frater Omnia Pro Veritate (Prof. Norman Mudd) who unraveled many of the mathematical mysteries of The Book of the Law.
