[REGARDIE, Israel] The Tree of Life: A Study in Magic (1932, 1st Edition in Dust Jacket)

$1,495.00

London: Rider & Co., 1932. First Edition. Hardcover in extremely rare dust jacket. Octavo. 286 pages. Black cloth with gilt spine titles. With color and black and white plates (all present). No bumped corners. A few small tears to cloth at rear joint (see photo). Some foxing to preliminaries, title page, and a few other areas. A bit of dust to page edges. Former owner's name and date to front free endpaper (Ernest Bell, 1933). The dust jacket here is a second state jacket (the first state had Regardie's name misspelled and a different price shown on front and spine). The dust jacket spine is darkened and has a couple of short scrapes, with tiny chips to spine ends. That being said the dust jacket remains in remarkable condition. A very good or better copy in as close to a fine dust jacket as one is ever likely to encounter, and scarce thus.

When Magic was looked upon as a forbidden subject, Regardie concluded and insisted that Magic is lucid, definite and precise, that there are no vague formulae comprehended within the sphere of its exactitude. Perhaps his years as secretary to Aleister Crowley helped to lead him to these conclusions. From his Qabalistic notes, he compiled this book. It remains one of the best studies of the Qabalistic Tree of Life and provides a unique gateway into the mysteries of Ceremonial Magic.
