[MANGAL, Joshi - Original Artwork] Outsider Tantric Folk Art - Image of a Standing Blindfolded Man with Sun Rays Around His Head [Image #036]
Kishangarh, Rajasthan: no date (modern). [#036] Gouache painting on recycled paper. This image shows a man standing who is wearing a blindfold. Sun rays surround his head. He holds two sets of rosary beads. In the background are what appear to be words or phrases in Devangari script, possibly more decorative than textual. The size of this image is approximately 7.5 x 11 inches including margins. Three pinholes on image. Very good.
Joshi Mangal is a painter from Kishangarh in Rajasthan (India). His body of work is based on the artistic styles found in bazaars in his community and inflected by his idiosyncratic taste for sensational images of tantric art. He paints images of tantric goddesses, circular yantra designs, astrological images, various body parts used for divination (hands and feet), and more.
