[MACE, Arthur Cruttenden] Egyptian Literature. A Lecture (1928)
New York: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1928. First Edition. Hardcover. Tall octavo. 32pp. Blue cloth spine over paper-covered boards. Some light edge and corner wear. A very good copy.
A lecture delivered by Arthur C. Mace in 1928. This work is part of Mace's broader academic contributions to Egyptology, which also include co-authoring The Tomb of Tut-Ankh-Amen with Howard Carter and documenting excavations at Lisht and Abydos. Here he demontrates that Egyptian writing is not just a collection of animal and other hieroglyphic signs, but rather that many Egyptian inscriptions throughout Egypt's vast history of writing, can indeed be described as literature. An interesting short read.
