[LEVI, Eliphas (Alphonse Louis Constant)] Transcendental Magic. It's Doctrine and Ritual
Translated, annotated and introduced by Arthur Edward Waite
London: William Rider & Son, Limited, 1923. New and revised edition. Hardcover. Large octavo. xxxiii + 522pp. 2 pages of ads at end of volume. Red cloth with gilt stylized borders and title to front, gilt titles to spine. Top edge gilt, other edges untrimmed. Front board very slightly splayed. Some very light edge and corner wear, former owner's large bookplate to front pastedown. A very good or better copy.
This is arguably Levi's finest work. Originally issued in French with the title: ‘Dogme et Ritual de la Haute Magien’ in 1856, the book consists of XXII chapters and is divided in two parts; the first covers Doctrine (theory), the second Ritual (practice). The work covers almost every aspect of Ritual Magic. Waite also provides a biographical preface. A classic work of occult literature.
