[LAURENT, Dr. Emile; NAGOUR, Prof. Paul] Magica Sexualis - Mystic Love Books of Black Arts and Secret Sciences
Translated by Raymond Sabatier
New York: (Privately Printed) Falstaff Press, 1934. First Edition. First Edition. Hardcover. Octavo. 272 pages plus an 18 page cabinet of unusual illustrations at end of volume. Handsomely bound in purple boards with numerous gilt designs to front and gilt titles and designs to spine. Fantastic pictorial endpapers depicting the Witches Sabbath. All corners remain sharp and gilt is still very bright and striking. There is a very faint vertical crease to cloth on upper spine, otherwise a near fine copy and probably the best copy I've ever had the pleasure to offer.
This unusual and highly curious work was privately issued in a limited edition of unspecified number by the Falstaff Press. It is stated that it is intended for circulation only among members of the learned professions, mature scholars of the sexual sciences and other educated adults. It is a very interesting treatise on sexual magic through the ages. Chapter headings include: Sex in the World of Magic; Satanism and Demon Worship - Erotico-Mystic Perversions; Incubi and Succubi; The Devil’s Copulations; The Witches’ Sabbath; The Black Mass and its Orgies; Werewolves and Vampires; Sex Enchantments; Magic Drinks - Magic Invocations - Magic Aphrodisiacs; Sex Talismans and Amulets; Sex Language and Symbols; Dreams and Sexual Magic; Sexual Music and Sexual Dance in the Orient and Occident; Christianity and Sexual Magic; Mystical Sexual Miscellanies; and Mystic Philosophy of Copulation Through the Ages. What’s not to like?
