[DERLETH, August] The Trail of Cthulhu (Arkham House)
Sauk City: Arkham House, 1962. First Edition. Limited to two thousand five hundred copies. Hardcover. Octavo. 250 pages. Beautiful dust jacket design by Richard Taylor. Heavy rubbing to the spine of the book making gilt title difficult to read. Old bookseller's price code to front endpaper in ink. Some sun fading to dust jacket spine. An about very good copy in a very good dust jacket.
To the Cthulhu Mythos, that curious myth-pattern developed by Lovecraft, August Derleth has added many stories, but none as comprehensive in its allusions as this novel in five related episodes. The story is of the devious pursuit of Cthulhu, the search for his lair in sunken R’lyeh, and of the danger from Cthulhu’s minions ever wary of detection and disclosure. Derleth includes a short postcript on the Cthulhu Mythos at the end of the volume.
