[MANGAL, Joshi - Original Artwork] Outsider Tantric Folk Art (A Collection of 15 Original Gouache Paintings from Rajasthan)

$295.00

Kishangarh, Rajasthan: no dates [2010-2020]. 15 individual gouache paintings on recycled paper, sizes of images vary ranging approximately from 9” x 9”, 10" x 7.5", 8" x 11", 9" x 12" and similar sizes. All images are clear and clean, with some very nice detail, and are very pleasant to handle. There is some spotting on margins of a few and a couple with a word written in the top margin. All are pictured. All are in very good condition. A very nice collection of original outsider art!

A remarkable collection of work by a painter from Kishangarh in Rajasthan (India), all of which are based on the artistic styles found in bazaars in his community and inflected by his idiosyncratic taste for sensational historical images of tantric folk art. The images show various parts of the body used for divination (hands and feet), circular yantra designs, astrological images, and more. Each of the images have Devangari script throughout the backgrounds. I believe this is meant to be more decorative than textual but I don’t really know for sure.
