THE EQUINOX OF THE GODS by Aleister Crowley (Facsimile Edition, 1955)

295.00

Crowley, Aleister. THE EQUINOX OF THE GODS. London: Issued by the O.T.O., 1936 [1955].

Facsimile of the 1936 first edition published by the O.T.O. Hardcover. Quarto, bound in maroon cloth covered boards with gilt A.: A.: seal to front and gilt title and rules to spine. Issued without dust jacket. Black and white images of the Stele of Revealing before title page. [vi] + 137 pages with one page sketch of the Qabalistic key to Liber Al at end of volume. This facsimile edition still lists on the contents page that there is a color frontispiece showing The Stele of Revealing frontispiece and that the facsimile of the MS of Liber Al is located in a pocket at end of volume - this copy has neither of the two. According to Gerald Yorke's bibliography of Crowley's works (further edited by Clive Harper) there was a “remainder issue” circa 1955 which does not include the pocket, and "not all copies have the color plates" (Aleister Crowley, The Golden Dawn and Buddhism Teitan Press, 2011, page 55). This copy is most likely one of these Remainder Issues. There is a two-inch horizontal scratch to right edge of front cover, light rubbing to cloth, gilt on spine a little dull. Overall a very good or better copy.

This is one of Crowley's most sought-after works, especially in hardcover. The Equinox of the Gods presents an amazing description of the circumstances leading up to Crowley's transcription of The Book of the Law. Includes biographical data, personal diary extracts, ritual workings, and more.
