After reading Ignatius Donnelly's "The Great Cryptogram," Wigston made up his mind to give the problem of whether there existed in the plays known as Shakespeare's a cipher or not, a thorough and searching examination. Wigston decided to make tables of those pages in the 1623 Folio Plays upon which he found the word "Bacon;" because he argues that if there really exists a cipher in these plays, it is sure to circle and concentrate itself around this word. After collating these tables, he curiously found that the word "Bacon" was always found on pages numbered 53 or 52. Wigston goes from there. There are some really fascinating ideas here, though some fall a bit short of the mark. Still, this remains an interesting work, though one will travel much further by studying Donnelly's more detailed book.
